One day the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) went to a village called Ta’if near Mecca, to deliver God’s message after he had been turned down by his own tribe. However, the people of Ta’if greeted him with mockery and ridiculed and set upon him the idlers and the louts of the city. They pelted him and his servent Zayd with clods and rocks. God's Messenger was so badly stoned that the blood began to spurt from all over his body. Even after this, rather than asking for God’s wrath to be brought down upon village, he chose to pray like this:
'Maybe Allah will produce from their offspring ones who worship Him alone'
